We had the honor of being invited to share the writing/illustration/collaboration process with an amazing group of 2nd graders last week. The kids had such thoughtful questions and were SO excited to show us their own stories that they have been working on all year! Thank you Mrs. Goring for sharing your amazing class with us.
Here is a note from their teacher ... "Friday brought a whole new aspect to our authors study as we got to visit with the illustrator of Signimalz. Dave Martinez showed us how he begins with a mess and ends with a very personified Signamal. He told us illustrating was not neat or perfect, he said it is a process he had to practice. He let my kids know it was ok to try, try, and try again. I know this really sank in to some of my boys who have shown great interest in drawing illustrations for the books they have written. Thank you, Mr. Dave for not only talking with my class, but listening to them too. You really made their day."
